Dr Cyrlene Claasen

Biography

Dr Cyrlene Claasen is a Namibian-French Associate Professor at Rennes School of Business and an Eiffel Excellence Scholarship laureate. She holds a PhD from The Open University in corporate social responsibility and matters of legitimacy in hybrid institutional environments, and two master’s degrees in political science and international relations. She leads the Developing People and Organisations research axis within the School’s Rethinking Tomorrow’s Organisation laboratory, where she has convened international workshops on informal relations and inequality with a deliberate focus on African and South Asian contexts. She teaches corporate social responsibility, sustainability, global-mindedness and intercultural intelligence. Her research spans renewable energy, contested conservation practices, inclusive human resource strategies, and the role of African youth and women in education and social transformation — work she aligns explicitly with United Nations Sustainable Development Goals 4, 5, 9, 10, 13, 15, 16 and 17. A former political specialist and diplomat, she has advised an international mining client on stakeholder engagement across Africa and is a member and speaker at the Africa Future Leaders Institute of Global Affairs. Her published work appears in outlets including Business & Society and Problems and Perspectives in Management.
